Bloglines Helps Bridge The Vastness Of Space

News Feed and Blog Reading In The Warrior Tongue

Oakland, CA, Earth -- Stardate: 2005.4.1 -- Bloglines, the world's most popular free online service for searching, subscribing, publishing and sharing news feeds, blogs and rich web content, today opened the doors of its service to audiences beyond our solar system with a new translation in Klingon, the galaxy's fastest-spreading invented language.

"The custom of sharing grand stories of conquest and battle has a long standing history among the Klingon people," said Mark Fletcher, founder of Bloglines. "Blogging is simply an easy way to continue the tradition while stuck in deep space, away from your family. We feel that presenting Bloglines in the Warrior Tongue was long overdue."

Klingon marks the eighth language translation for Bloglines, joining Chinese, English, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish. To navigate Bloglines in Klingon, simply select the language from the menu on the left hand side of the Bloglines home page. To find out more about the Klingon language, visit http://www.kli.org/ or check with your local Klingon embassy. Qapla'!

That Darn Plumber!

12:00 am - June 27, 2005 in Bloglines | News
You may have noticed the Bloglines Plumber appearing unexpectedly recently, generally in the evenings. That's the web page that we put up when we need to take the Bloglines site down. We try to avoid downtime whenever possible, and when it's necessary, we post advance notice here on the Bloglines blog. Unfortunately, we've recently been experiencing a corruption issue with several of our databases. When that happens, we need to take the site down and fix the database in question. No data is lost, but it does require downtime to fix, which is bad; we're just as addicted to Bloglines as you are. We're feverishly working to track down the problem, and we apologize for the inconvenience.

Scheduled Downtime This Evening

2:00 pm - July 17, 2005 in Bloglines | News
Bloglines will be down this evening, July 17, 2005, starting at 7PM Pacific time. We will be upgrading one of the backend systems, as part of our continuing efforts to ensure that the Bloglines web site is always quick and responsive, even as we continue to grow rapidly. We expect the downtime to last approximately one hour.

Feeds Not Being Crawled

2:00 am - September 2, 2005 in Bloglines | News
We have discovered a problem with our RSS crawlers that caused many feeds to not be crawled. The issue started yesterday morning after one of the crawler machines crashed. We have fixed the problem, and all feeds should be crawled within the next two hours. We apologize for the problem, and continue to work on improving the Bloglines system.
